Two things I cannot say no to: pizza, and a good challenge. Nothing brings them together like a New Jersey food blog that seeks to bring readers a view on the best pizza in the area. Can you say you have tried all the family-owned neighborhood institutions in operation for decades? What about all the new artisanal, gourmet varieties? Have you ever tried to choose your favorite pizza place? I mean really, just one? … [Read more...]

late September gatherings
The dilemma of planning a [northeastern] September gathering: you and your guests want to enjoy the late summer sunshine, the transition of a warm day to a cool evening, and the last vestiges of summer outdoor dining. There remains a risk, however, that the weather will not cooperate. It could be oppressively hot and humid. A thunderstorm could strike. It could be cold and dreary. You have more options than ever for a refreshing drink on a hot summer day, but it is so much more. Beer is taking its rightful place in the food culture revolution, as brewers and consumers alike learn the art and joy of a good food and beer pairing. Turns out, I’m a fan. … [Read more...]

Restaurants around here are getting a much-needed makeover. The Hills Tavern is the latest arrival, filling a very open need for casual, modern dining that doesn’t require booking a reservation months in advance. It honors the privilege of possession of a rare liquor license, creating a modern gastropub vibe with equal focus on food and drinks. … [Read more...]
culinary adventures at Jockey Hollow
New Jersey Monthly recently released its annual list of the Top 25 Restaurants in New Jersey, and once again, Jockey Hollow Bar and Kitchen in Morristown, NJ made the cut. I have enjoyed and recommended many of them, but Jockey Hollow Bar and Kitchen ("JHBK") stands out from the crowd. Part special occasion restaurant, part casually elegant neighborhood bar, JHBK strives to serve the community in all its food and drink needs -- and a few wants. … [Read more...]
